In autumn, the route of our railway becomes a multicoloured painting, with the forests tinged in all shades of red, yellow and orange. A spectacle of nature to be experienced while travelling on our trains through forests and wild valleys. Every day the trains connect the two terminuses, Domodossola and Locarno, crossing a breathtaking landscape along a 52 km route with spectacular views and panoramic glimpses inflamed by autumn colours.

WHAT IS THE FOLIAGE TRAIN? In autumn, the woods along our route, between Domodossola and Locarno, are tinged with various colours, giving our route a breathtaking landscape of foliage, the autumn variation in the colour of leaves.   WHEN CAN I EXPERIENCE THE FOLIAGE? From 12 October to 17 November 2024 is the best time to observe this picturesque phenomenon on board our trains.   HOW MUCH DOES THE TICKET COST? Tickets cost €40 on Saturdays and Sundays and €36 during the week. Children and young people aged between 6 and 16 years pay half price; under 6 years they travel free of charge if they do not occupy a seat. Select ‘children 0/6’ in the purchase menu to guarantee them a seat.   WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE TICKET PRICE? The ticket includes ONE ROUND-trip Domodossola – Locarno or vice versa and ONE INTERMEDIATE STOP EITHER on the outward journey OR on the return journey. WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU ONLY ENTER ONE INTERMEDIATE STOP AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE, OTHERWISE THE SYSTEM WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO FINALISE YOUR PURCHASE.   HOW LONG IS THE TICKET VALID? The ticket is valid for one day and includes one round trip on the entire line, just under two hours’ travel time each way, and includes ONE INTERMEDIATE STOP for the entire ticket. the ticket is valid for 2 days ONLY if you stay overnight at the terminals in Domodossola or Locarno.   WHICH TRAINS ARE ‘OF THE FOLIAGE’? All of them! Our trains all run on the same route. Choose the timetable that suits you best.   WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INTERNATIONAL, CENTOVALLI EXPRESS AND PANORAMA TRAINS? The international trains are more vintage and historic, the panorama trains and Centovalli express have larger windows; each train has its own charm!   WHEN IS IT BEST TO TRAVEL? We recommend booking during weekdays with a discounted fare.   HOW LONG CAN I STAY AT THE INTERMEDIATE STOP? As long as you wish! When you book your ticket, you must already enter the intermediate stop and decide on the departure time from that station.   DEPARTING FROM LOMBARDY, WHICH ROUTE IS RECOMMENDED? For travellers arriving from Lombardy, it is advisable to take the Vigezzina-Centovalli railway, departing from the Swiss terminus in Locarno, whose station can be easily reached by the direct TILO RE80 train, which connects Milano Centrale to Locarno every day.   CAN I BRING MY DOG ON BOARD ? Dogs are allowed on board. please read the instructions on the following link. https://www.vigezzinacentovalli.com/info-servizi/faq.html.   CONDITIONS FOR DISABLED TRAVELLERS Only travellers in possession of a nationally issued card (e.g. Carta Blu or disability card) are considered disabled. Any locally issued cards do not entitle disabled travellers to discounts. In the case of disability certification issued by accredited bodies, any accompanying person travels free of charge. Any guide dogs for the blind also travel free of charge. If the disabled person is travelling unaccompanied, they must be in possession of a valid ticket. If the passenger is travelling in a wheelchair, he/she will only enter one paying adult at the time of booking. He/she will then have to send an e-mail to prenotazioni@vigezzinacentovalli.com no later than 48 hours before the journey with booking information in order to request assistance (lifting with a platform) from the cabin crew. If the passenger sits in a normal seat, he/she must select 1 adult and 1 child 0/6 to guarantee his/her seat.
