The Locarno Film Festival is the most important film festival in Switzerland and among the most important in Europe. Numerous films are presented in the four different competitions: Concorso internazionale, Concorso Cineasti del presente and the Pardi di domani competitions (national and international). The heart of the Festival is certainly the evening screening of films in the splendid setting of the Piazza Grande, which for the occasion is transformed into the ‘most beautiful open-air cinema’. Internationally renowned producers, directors and actors, who come to Locarno to present their films, parade on the red carpet, giving a touch of cosmopolitan glamour to the festival. In addition to the Piazza Grande, screenings take place in 12 other venues around the city. More information
