From 27 July, the International Short Film Festival will be held in Malesco: four evenings to take a "short" trip around the world.
After the forced hiatus of 2020, Malescorto, the only international festival of short films set in the Italian Alps together with Cortinametraggi, returns at the end of July to the pretty village of Malesco, which has been awarded the Orange Flag by the Italian Touring Club. The organisation is working to be able to propose the 21st edition of the Festival both in presence and in streaming. More detailed information, which will depend on the contingent situation and current legislation, will be released in the coming weeks.
Now in its twenty-first edition, Malescorto is increasingly becoming a reference point for international short film productions: from 654 participants in 2018, to 918 in 2019 and the absolute record of
1.212 short films in 2020. An important recognition and numbers that speak for themselves and that bring the small village of Val Vigezzo to the centre of the world: from fiction to documentary, from experimental cinema to mockumentary, the map of short films received is really wide and touches all continents, from Africa to America, from Asia to Europe, up to Oceania.
Once again this year the Festival (supported by the Piedmont Region, the Val Grande National Park Authority, the VCO Community Foundation, the Order of Architects, Planners, Landscapers and Conservators of the provinces of Novara and VCO, the Ossola Museums Association and the Novara-Vco Territory Service Centre) will surprise not only by the quantity of films participating, but also and above all by the quality of the shorts presented.
The programme of this long-awaited 21st edition will certainly be affected by the limitations and regulations linked to Covid-19, but the organisation did not want to give up an international appointment that has become a point of reference: Malescorto will be held both in person and online, to encourage wider participation. It will kick off on Monday 26 July with the customary opening evening, the programme for which is currently under construction, while Saturday 31 July will be the final day with the awards ceremony for the winning short films. From Tuesday 27 to Friday 30 July, every evening at 9 pm, the Cinema of Malesco will host the heart of the festival programme, i.e. the screenings of the Official Selection.
In anticipation of the Festival, there will be a chance to discover the short films of the special selections, thanks to the evenings scheduled for Friday 9 July with the Special Selection MaleSchools and Friday 16 July with the Special Selections Voluntary & Solidarity and the Special Selections Voluntary & Solidarity.
Selections and Territories.
The organisation is also working on a series of collateral initiatives, which will further enrich the programme of the 21st edition of Malescorto.
