Viewed from our railway, Malesco is located in the Val Grande national park on the opposite side of the valley. The road winding up to the mountains from the village leads to the Cannobina Valley.
According to an old tradition, the chimney sweeps from the Centovalli and Vigezzo Valley gathered here in autumn before they set off to Italy for their work.
A memorial stands on the village square as a reminder of this trade. This was how the valley was given its second name, “valley of the chimney sweeps”.
In Malesco you can also admire an old lavatoio (1895) with eight large granite basins. The washhouse was completely restored in 2002.
