The charm of camellias awaits you! The beautiful Camellia Park of Locarno was inaugurated in March 2005 during the World Congress of the International Camellia Society (ICS), which took place in Locarno, in the presence of many delegates from all over the world. The park has become an international attraction, both for its scenic value and for its valuable botanical contents. The numerous species in the park guarantee a flowering period of nine months a year. At the time of its opening, 500 camellias were planted. The main architect of this realization is the Parks and Gardens Service of Locarno, which for years has been cultivating and multiplying camellias in its nursery in Locarno Monti. Taking advantage of the knowledge gained during the ICS Congress and thanks also to the Swiss Camellia Society, the city’s gardeners were able to further enrich their already considerable collection by exchanging unusual varieties and collaborating with growers from Italy, Germany, Belgium, the USA and China. In the summer of 2007, the second phase of the works began, involving the construction of some key structures and the extension of the park to the most picturesque area, towards the lake.   Opening hours
