Historic train at Swissminiatur

25 March 2024

From 25 March 2024, the historic train will (also) be waiting for you at Swissminiatur!

The Swissminiatur, Switzerland's largest open-air museum of miniatures, has been enriched with an important new piece: the historic 1923 train of the Vigezzina-Centovalli railway. It has been placed in a new large area of the park complete with railway line, bridge over the Isorno, Intragna bell tower and two stations, those of Intragna and Verscio.

The new model was built using a combination of craftsmanship and technological techniques. The interior of the train, in particular, was produced using 3D printing, which enabled accurate details to be obtained using a state-of-the-art method. In parallel, the bell tower of Intragna was developed with the aid of computer-aided design and subsequently produced in 1:25 scale by milling. The project will have a follow-up: next autumn, again at Swissminiatur, a scale model of the new Stadler trains, which will go into operation at the end of 2024, will be presented.

Park opening

The park is open daily from 16 March to 3 November, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with last admission at 5.30 p.m. In addition, from 8 July until 18 August, the park will offer extended openings of one hour.

The calendar of events and initiatives for the 100th anniversary of the Vigezzina-Centovalli Railway can be viewed on fartiamo.ch/100.
