The artificial reservoir

The artificial reservoir at Palagnedra is one of the picturesque photo opportunities on our railway route. The reservoir was built between 1950 and 1952 for Maggia Kraftwerke AG. The surrounding mountains are reflected on the smooth surface of the lake, which creates a distinctly captivating play of light in every season.

The Palagnedra natural forest reserve between the hamlet of Palagnedra and Monte Gridone covers an area of 645 hectares, marked by a unique combination of geological features, humid climate and diverse forest segments.
