"The Guardians of the Alps" exhibition

From 08 March 2024 to 01 May 2024

From Friday 8 March to Wednesday 1 May, the Municipality of Santa Maria Maggiore and the Fondazione Rossetti Valentini are staging the exhibition 'The Guardians of the Alps. Women, mountains and clichés'.

This is an unprecedented and particularly relevant exhibition to explore the role of mountain women, who were often deeply subjugated to a system: however, history, notarial deeds and demographic issues show conduct that also denotes independence, enterprising gestures and management skills. Not isolated cases, but customs that will be highlighted in the exhibition.

A small exhibition that aims to highlight the peculiarities of the existential parabola of mountain women of the past, with the intention of not rigidifying into absolute categories social and demographic phenomena of Alpine community organisation that were not determined by nature, but only by cultural and economic adaptations.
