The stamp celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Vigezzina-Centovalli Railway

The 100th anniversary stamp of the Vigezzina-Centovalli Railway is available at all Swiss Post offices and at the FART Box Office in Locarno!

On 25 November 2023, with an inaugural event, the celebrations of the first 100 years of the Vigezzina-Centovalli Railway will officially take off until November 2024. A year marked by many initiatives and events aimed at honouring the first century of the history of the railway line linking Locarno to Domodossola.

One of these initiatives is ahead of time; in fact, a preview was presented in the philatelic magazine of the Post Office "La Lente" the commemorative stamp, which depicts one of the most iconic scenery of the railway. The crossing over the Iron Bridge of Intragna represents a symbolic image, able to encompass all the spectacularness and beauty of the railway line.

At the graphic level, the stamp has a vintage design that recalls the period when the railway was inaugurated. The circular flow of text ensures continuous reading, thus forming a self-conclusive path – an abstract symbol of a railway path.

"The commemorative stamp represents the first step towards a historic year for our railway", says Claudio Blotti, Director of FART. "From the 25th of November, a full calendar of 360° celebrations will begin which will allow loyal travellers and our company to celebrate the first 100 years of a unique railway line in the best possible way".

The stamp is on sale at all the offices of the Post Office and at our Box Office in Locarno.
