The old grape press

The village square at Cavigliano is home to one of the oldest grape presses in Ticino. It is on display inside an old stone building, and is impressive due to its size and the ten-metre long central beam about a metre in diameter. The press, which was used exclusively for pressing grapes, works in the customary Piedmont way with a lever mechanism, and was in operation up to the post-war years. The building housing the well-maintained wine press has been carefully restored. The wine press can be viewed independently (payment on-site).
